BTME 2026: Let’s talk First Green
Jenny Bledge will be discussing all things First Green at BTME – and she would love to see you there.

January is often a time for reflection and fresh ideas. It gives us space to think about what we want the next 12 months to look like and maybe even try something we haven’t before. With BTME just around the corner, it’s the perfect opportunity to turn those thoughts into something tangible.
This year, I’m hosting a seminar that really taps into that mindset. It’s for anyone who’s curious about bringing young people into the profession in a practical and achievable way. If you’ve ever thought about running a First Green event or you’re simply interested in inspiring the next generation, this seminar will give you a clear idea of what it involves and how to make it work at your club.
What the session is all about
We’ll dive into what First Green looks like in practice and how any club, whatever the size or location, can make it work. I’ll take you step-by-step through the process, share stories from clubs that have hosted brilliant events and highlight the easy wins that make the biggest impact. I’ll also be joined by a panel of greenkeepers who hosted First Green events in 2025, representing clubs and organisations from across the country.
They’ll be sharing how they found the planning, what the day itself was like and what they learned along the way. It’s a brilliant chance to hear directly from those who have done it, ask questions and get a real feel for what the process looks like from their side.
Why you should be there
If you’ve thought about hosting a First Green event but don’t quite know where to start, this is your chance to get clarity. Already involved in outreach? You’ll pick up new ideas and build confidence. Just curious about how the movement is growing across the UK and Ireland? You’ll leave with the full picture of what’s happening and why it matters.
Above all, this session is about momentum. The more clubs that feel confident to get involved, the more young people we can reach. And the more young people we reach, the stronger our future workforce becomes. It’s a ripple effect and all of you play a part.
A small step that makes a big difference
Rather than just talking about change, this is a chance to do something that genuinely moves things forward. You don’t need big budgets or complicated plans – a bit of interest and a willingness to open your doors can make a real difference to young people who might never have considered greenkeeping before.
So, if you’re heading to BTME, take 30 minutes out of your day and come along. Grab a seat, bring your questions and hear how First Green works, why it matters and how you can get involved. GI
