Northern Irish based firm CRL (Clive Richardson Limited) will be featured on a Discovery Channel documentary charting their progress and work for the Brazil 2014 World Cup tournament. The programme will air on UK channel Quest at 9pm, Tuesday 10
th June 2014.
The programme focussed on the challenges of building the World's first cooled rootzone pitch. Engineers and consultants at CRL have 'reverse engineered' a pitch heating system in order to cool the rootzone and provide a cool season grass climate through the summer period for Ryegrass.
The project was awarded the 2013 ALCI special design and build award for use of innovative technologies and engineering excellence on a world stage. Speaking about the project, Managing Director Clive Richardson said "we are delighted that our company CRL were involved in 6 of the 12 World Cup stadiums. The pitches which have invested in technology, groundsmanship and a professional approach to usage have all turned out well. We are proud as a company to work on the World Cup and have already started work in Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022."
