Enviro-Bunker:-The long awaited answer to bunker erosion

Southerndown GCEnvirosports Ltd officially launches 'Enviro-Bunker', a revolutionary new concept in bunker construction, at the 2011 Harrogate show.

Through truly innovative design Enviro-Bunker is guaranteed to eradicate the long standing problem of bunker erosion and offers a viable alternative to traditional bunkering.

Three years in the making Enviro-Bunker has recently been constructed on four golf courses local to the company base in South Wales, including Pyle and Kenfig G.C. (hosts to Welsh Amateur championships) and Maesteg G.C. (STRI 'Golf Environment Award' Winners 2010)

Pyle and Kenfig GCPaul Johnson, Head Greenkeeper at Pyle and Kenfig, commented: 'This is a brilliant idea, very innovative, and I was certainly more impressed than I expected to be on seeing the bunkers at Maesteg, they look fantastic! As a result we commissioned Enviro-Bunker at Pyle. Our members have been really positive about the look and performance of the bunker and we have invited Envirosports to present Enviro-Bunker to the South Wales Links Forum in the New Year'

Enviro-Bunker has also been constructed at Clyne Golf course which suffers chronic problems with its bunkers, due to the effects of having sheep, horses and even cows on the golf course.

Peter Rees, Chairman of Greens and former Club Champion at Clyne explains, 'Our biggest problem in terms of course maintenance is bunkering. We had basically given up on our bunkers before we discovered Enviro-Bunker. Since its construction on the course this year we have been staggered by its look and performance. Not one member spotted any difference in appearance between Enviro-Bunker and a traditional turf bunker which is exactly what we were hoping.'

Maesteg G.C.Rhydian Lewis, Co-Director of Envirosports and Chairman of Greens at Maesteg Golf Club, says, 'We are really excited at the potential of Enviro-Bunker. Not only does it look and perform identically to a traditional turf bunker it overcomes the effects of erosion caused by burrowing animals, weather, heavy machinery and general wear and tare. What's more it's maintenance free and built to last with a life expectancy of 20 years and more. It represents huge savings both in terms of monetary outlay labour for any forward thinking golf club.'

The secret ingredient at the core of Enviro-Bunker is sure to raise eyebrows and generate debate regarding the use of synthetic material on golf courses, that is if you can spot it!
