The Estates Grounds team at the iconic National Football Centre, St. George's Park, are looking for a Grounds person to join the team to support during the busy Summer 2024 period. This will be for approximately 4 months.

You will:

  • Be working with the other members of the Estates team to maintain and prepare all landscape areas to the highest standard enhancing the overall environment for all events and teams hosted on the SGP grounds.
  • Work as part of the Estates Team in the maintenance of the site in accordance with current management plans and annual work schedules produced
  • Help ensure the site is kept clear of litter and presentable for visitors, clients and staff
  • Help ensure clear and safe pedestrian and vehicular access to the site particularly in adverse weather conditions.

About the Team

Looking after our world-class venues, these teams are in charge of making sure everything is safe and operationally ready. From day-to-day maintenance and perfecting pitches for matches to overseeing world-class music concerts, flagship NFL events and facilities upgrades, they're custodians of English football's two national homes.

What will you be doing?

  • Assist in maintaining and preparing the gardens and landscape areas to high standards set out by senior estates management team.
  • Assist with work on the wider estate carrying out works in line with estate management plans
  • Assist with lawn maintenance and care to include – mowing, edging, weeding, strimming, repair work (vehicle damage etc.)
  • To assist in the maintenance of woodlands, grasslands and other landscaped areas across the site
  • Assist with bed and planter maintenance including – planting, weeding, pruning, forking, digging, mulching, watering, edging
  • Assist with hedge maintenance including – weeding, cutting, edging
  • Path and kerb maintenance to include – cleaning, spraying, weeding, brushing, blowing, gritting and snow clearing
  • To work sensitively and cooperatively as part of the Estates Team in areas as required by law due to specific species and areas on site
  • To wear the correct PPE as laid out in the Health and Safety guidelines
  • To inform supervisors of any maintenance issues, damages or breakages to the site or tools
  • To comply with company policy and best practise in security, legal and regulatory compliance
  • To carry out all duties, within the relevant legislation
  • To ensure H&S responsibilities are fulfilled
  • Always maintain all equipment in line with manufactures standards to ensure optimum operation
  • Operate all SGP grounds machinery to maintain all areas to the highest standard
  • To carry out any training required for the role, to include mandatory set out by FA group.
  • To be responsible for ensuring all equipment and tools are returned in good condition
  • Executes additional tasks as required in order to meet FA Group changing priorities.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing can be maintained.

Knowledge

  • The role will involve lone working and collaborative teamwork so you must be able to work under own initiative and as part of a team

Beneficial to have:

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of any of trees, shrubs, plants, flowers
  • Machinery knowledge of either use, maintenance or both
  • Previous proven experience in a grounds maintenance / horticulture role
  • An understanding and safe use of ride on rotary mowers, pedestrian mowing, hedge trimmers, blowers and strimmers

Experience

  • Previous use of pedestrian mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters
  • Ride on mowers use
  • Tractor and trailer driving
  • Safe use and knowledge of tractor mounted machinery

Technical Skills

  • An interest and knowledge in the environment and wildlife
  • A sports fan in general
