Forest and Toro team up
FOREST IS FIRST IN COUNTRY WITH NEW TORO SPORTS GROUND MOWERS
The 2000-D is being hailed as the most economical diesel trim mower on the market. Toro has designed it as an affordable machine that delivers a superb quality of cut on sports grounds.
"I chose the 2000-D because I wanted something similar in size to the 216 unit, but upgraded, and that would last long-term," says Steve. "It's robust and powerful enough to keep up with the mowing programme, while also delivering a quality cut.
"We use one on the training ground, two at the academy and occasionally we'll use one on the main pitch," Steve adds. "From the operator's point of view it's very easy to use - for both senior and junior grounds staff - and comfortable. Value for money was also a big consideration. We assessed other makes of mower alongside the Reelmaster and for its size and type it was the best price by far."
Forest describes its facilities as a "Premiership set-up". In addition to the main pitch at The City Ground, there's a training ground not half-a-mile away, plus an academy that boasts four full-size pitches. It's a compact arrangement that comprises 10 grass pitches and covers some 40 acres in all.
It's a major challenge for Steve and his team of seven grounds staff to keep up with Forest's heavy mowing schedule, especially as they also have to deliver top quality surfaces that both look good and play well.
Throughout summer, the new Toro mowers were used on a daily basis at the training ground and on academy pitches - each for approximately four hours a day.
"During the summer close season the grass grows so fast and this is where the mowers really come into their own and prove their worth," Steve says.
