Press Release

The Gibsons website which was launched during 2003 was produced with the support of Business Link for East Lancashire and designed by e-business UK of Blackburn. The site has already achieved many of its initial aims - a fact that impressed the judges and led to the company being highly commended in March 2004.

"We are very proud of this achievement as it recognises the progress we have made towards improving our service to customers - and realising our goal of being the leading groundscare machinery dealership in the North of England." Chris Gibson, managing director

The website was developed following a business review back in 2002. With a clear opportunity to set a benchmark in the groundcare industry, the site was developed to grow new business sales by providing customers with an easy way to purchase both machinery and parts on-line.

"Websites in the groundscare sector are little more than a collection of images and pictures. Our vision was to create a site sophisticated enough to allow online ordering of new and used machinery as well as parts - all available with a variety of online payment options. As a result we have seen a rise in new customer enquiries, increased parts ordering on-line and optimisation of our sales activity."

Overview of the site:
Customers can purchase new or used machinery either by selecting one of 16 brands or by choosing from a list of 18 product categories, which include everything from brushcutters to full size tractors. Whichever is the preferred route information is displayed clearly with an accompanying picture, specification, price and the ability to purchase using the 'shopping basket' button.

In a similar way used, newly launched and special offer models are displayed to make selection and purchasing simple.

Parts are also easily purchased on-line being selected either by part number or part name. To help parts order processing the site offers a library of technical information which includes full parts listing, parts manuals and operator manuals for all of the major manufacturers available through Gibsons.

Buying on-line is very simple. Users browse the site, make their individual selections with the 'shopping basket' button and when finished proceed to the secure checkout area, where payment can be made and shipping details arranged. For account customers any transaction is charged to their account in the normal way to the agreed account terms.

New developments:
Recent feedback from customers has identified a number of further refinements that include a desire for more information and order tracking. In addition the site now includes Java pop-up windows that link directly to supplier sites for part number identification, pdf downloads of manuals and supersession information so that if an old part number is searched the site will provide the new number automatically.

By the end of March 2004 the integration of the web order interface with the accounts package will be operational with the aim of improving efficiencies still further and reducing lead times. "The Gibsons website will undergo a process of continuous development as we discover better ways to utilise new technology and promote to our customers and suppliers that we are totally committed to developing our services so that we not only meet their expectations in the future, but exceed them".
