High Praise from the 'Home of golf' for TORO
St Andrews Links has recently renewed its Toro agreement, with links superintendent, Gordon Moir, saying that the Toro equipment the 'Home of Golf' exclusively uses to maintain its greens and tees has "proved extremely reliable and allowed the Links Trust to present the golf courses to the standard golfers expect."
Comprising seven courses, the world-famous St Andrews Links in Fife sustains more than 200,000 rounds of golf a year and so it is crucial that the courses are immaculately maintained. "Many golfers view their trip to St Andrews as a pilgrimage and have very high expectations," Gordon continues. "It is vital, therefore, that we present the courses in the best condition we can every day of the year - not just for The Open or the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship."
In order to achieve this goal, the Links Trust relies on Toro equipment to keep everything from the Old Course to The Castle Course in optimum playing condition and hence has renewed its agreement as part of an ongoing machinery replacement deal.
"The Toro equipment plays a key role in enabling our greenkeeping staff to deliver excellent course conditioning day-in, day-out," Gordon says. "We use a large range of equipment, from numerous mowers and Workman utility vehicles, to aeration equipment, such as the ProCore and HydroJect. The staff find the machines comfortable and easy to operate as well as straightforward to maintain."
And with St Andrews set to host its 28th Open in 2010, its ongoing use of Toro kit is also aiding its long-term preparations for this and other major golfing events. As Gordon explains: "Our relationship with Toro allows us to plan well in advance for events like The Open and to ensure that we have the right equipment available at the right time.
"It means we can rely on the quality of the machinery and high levels of service when we need them the most. The backup from both Henderson Grass Machinery and Toro has been first-class when required. Toro has impressed us with its commitment to the turf industry and its desire to continually raise the bar in golf course maintenance."
