John Deere’s hybrid technology leads the way
John Deere's pioneering hybrid technology for golf course and amenity turf maintenance was featured on three different machines on the company's stand at BTME 2010 in Harrogate this month.
The energy-efficient hybrid system is utilised on no less than five pedestrian and ride-on mowers in the company's new range for 2010, giving customers an unrivalled choice of this innovative technology, which is designed to reduce fuel consumption, operating costs, hydraulic leaks and noise levels.
The latest John Deere E-Cut hybrid machines include the 220e walk-behind greens mower, the 2500e triplex greens mower and the 8000e, 7500e and 8500e fairway mowers, all of which are fitted with the award winning Quick Adjust (QA) cutting units, featuring the unique Speed Link system for extremely quick height of cut adjustment.
First introduced in 2005, the 2500e was the golf and turf industry's first hybrid greens mower, combining conventional diesel power with electric motors to produce a quieter, more environmentally friendly machine. This advanced technology eliminates over 100 potential hydraulic leak points, without sacrificing overall reliability, power or cut quality.
The new walk-behind and fairway mowers also feature similar hybrid electric drive technology. The 220e's design reduces weight on the cutting head and allows it to follow ground contours even more closely, as only an electric cable is required to transmit power to the cutting head.
The 8000e combines low noise and engine emission levels with reduced fuel consumption, and this machine's lower ground pressure and three-wheel configuration leave a minimal 'footprint'. This makes the 8000e a more productive alternative to hand mowing larger areas of fine turf, for example.
Based on the same platform as the PrecisionCut line of fairway mowers launched in 2008, the new 7500e and 8500e mowers also feature John Deere's exclusive GRIP all-wheel drive traction system as an option on both models. This provides excellent traction not only when mowing up and down inclines, but on hillsides as well.
