New Norfolk spider takes its place
GreenasGrass take first spider in Norfolk
By Peter Driver
Marcus Kett, owner and managing director of GreenasGrass Grounds Maintenance Services, has taken delivery of an innovative new mower for maintaining slope and banks, the Ransomes Spider.
Purchased from local dealer, Bartram Professional of Norwich, the new machine comes with its own bespoke trailer complete with security box, securing points and drop leg stabilisers.
The Spider is unique in that it is the first remotely controlled mower specially designed for maintaining steep banks and slopes, such as coastal cliffs, reservoirs and motorway embankments. It is marketed by Ransomes Jacobsen Ltd, based in Ipswich, who is one of the world's leading suppliers of grounds maintenance equipment to golf courses, local authorities and professional contractors.
"This machine is truly innovative with the operator remote from it while its working", said Marcus Kett, "It's superb from an health and safety aspect as it negates all the issues at a stroke; hand arm vibration, noise, stress on back and hips. It also prevents the possibility of operator injury in a roll over accident. It's the first of its type in the Norfolk area and I'm sure it'll be of great interest to the local authorities. It will be part of a two-man travelling team who will support the rest of our grounds care services."
GreenasGrass was formed in 1989 offering local domestic ground maintenance services in and around Norwich, but quickly grew to provide commercial services right across Norfolk. Marcus Kett currently employs a team of four supplemented by part-time staff in the peak cutting season. The company has a significant fleet of grounds maintenance equipment and is currently relocating to larger premises in Bengate.
A member of BALI (The British Association of Landscape Industries), the company is registered with Norfolk Home Call, a safety initiative set up by Norfolk County Council to help safeguard older and vulnerable people in Norfolk, by ensuring that they contact a reputable supplier for gardening and related services.
