RXV Golf Cars for Southerndown GC
Southerndown Golf Club, situated in the picturesque Vale of Glamorgan just outside Bridgend, South Wales has taken delivery of a small fleet of E-Z-GO electric RXV golf cars from local distributor, David Evans Agricultural Ltd (DEAL).
Southerndown is a unique course located on a massive limestone outcrop, 70 metres above the sea, with spectacular panoramic views across the Bristol Channel. Overlaid with acidic soils, the course is a free-draining 'limestone-heathland-links' and has been shaped by some of the greatest names in golf course design - Willie Fernie, Herbert Fowler, Willie Park, Harry Colt and Donald Steel. Because of its free-draining nature, it is possible to use buggies all year round without causing damage to the turf.
Alan Hughes is the chief executive at the club and explaining the decision to purchase the RXV's said, "We had an ageing fleet of five golf cars, initially hired in from Mox, and which we subsequently purchased. Although they are getting a bit long in the tooth, I noticed that demand was increasing, especially from visitors and our older members. That was the driver to look at further vehicles, because without doubt golf cars are an excellent contributor to the club's finances through visitor income. They also provide an invaluable service to members, particularly the more elderly and infirm, enabling them to enjoy their club membership for longer.
"It made sound economic sense to increase the fleet, but the course is situated on common land and we are bound by a covenant that states we can operate a maximum of 10 buggies. We looked at what was available and decided on the new E-Z-GO RXV, which we purchased from our local dealer, David Evans.
"I particularly like electric buggies and these, in particular, because they are so quiet and unobtrusive around the course. All in all, I'm very satisfied with the reliability of the vehicles and the prompt and helpful service we get from David Evans."
