Thornbury Golf Centre completes major bunker renovation project
Thornbury Golf Centre, owned and operated by BGL Golf, has successfully completed the first two phases of a major £180,000 course enhancement project, focused on the refurbishment and construction of bunkers across five holes.

Over the past nine weeks, the club has invested significant time and resources into upgrading fourteen bunkers, further elevating the playing experience for members and all those visiting the club.
Caroline Williams, General Manager at Thornbury Golf Centre, said: “This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to continually enhance the course and deliver the best possible experience for our members and guests at Thornbury. The new bunkers not only improve the playability and aesthetics of the course but also reinforce our reputation as a fantastic place to play. We are proud of the results and are excited to see golfers enjoying the new challenges.”
The project was delivered in partnership with Profusion Environmental, specialists in golf course construction, and Leeds Golf Design, who provided expert architectural guidance. Their combined expertise and attention to detail have ensured the highest standards of design and build quality throughout.

Each bunker has been carefully crafted to enhance both the strategic challenge and visual appeal of the course. From framing greens and redefining fairways to creating new shot-making opportunities, the improvements offer a refreshed and rewarding experience for golfers of all abilities.
In addition to the bunker improvements, the project included significant drainage updates on the 1st hole. These enhancements are designed to improve playability and overall course condition, particularly in the wetter months, helping to maintain excellent course standards year-round.
Guy Riggott, COO of BGL Golf, added: “At BGL, we are committed to delivering outstanding course conditions across all our venues, and Thornbury’s recent improvements are a testament to that ethos. The team, alongside our excellent partners, has delivered a top-quality project that will benefit the club and its players for years to come.”

This investment comes after the club completed the major redevelopment of its driving range facility in 2023, becoming the first in the region to install pioneering Trackman Range technology. The state-of-the-art driving range boasts 23 bays with Trackman touchscreens, and the outfield was totally remodelled to create a more immersive experience for visitors. The investment of more than £400,000 also included an F&B facility that allows food and drink to be served directly to guests in their hitting bays.
Looking ahead, Thornbury Golf Centre remains committed to further investment into the course, with additional phases of the bunker improvement project scheduled from 2026 onwards. With the first phases now complete, the club invites golfers to experience the course firsthand, with tee times available throughout the summer months.
