Vredo Super Compact Seeder boosts germination rates

Dave Pearce of @Turf - a South Wales contractor, has rapidly increased his business since purchasing a Vredo Super Compact Seeder from Campey Turf Care Systems.

"Since overseeding the renowned Mid-Glamorgan golf courses Royal Porthcawl and Southerndown Golf Club we have received nothing but praise for the Vredo." says Dave. "They have also recommended it to other golf clubs in the area."

"The general perception that all conventional disc seeders need more than one pass on fine turf to get the coverage is completely blown out of the water." explains Dave.

The Super Compact version has a double line of closely spaced discs only 3.5cm apart so a single pass operation is all that is required with no disruption to play even on fine turf.

The discs make a precise incision in the turf where the seed is sown directly in contact with the soil. Seed is safe from predators and receives all the necessary nutrients and water. Consequently it germinates and grows faster.

The result is that the unique action of the Vredo overseeding system consistently delivers an exceptionally high seed germination rate of 90-95%.

Ted Hopkins Limited Southern Wales Dealer for Campeys, knows how important high germination rates are to head greenkeepers. They represent a significant economic benefit to golf clubs. Precise positioning of the seed in the soil means no wastage - and massive cost savings in reducing seed purchase.

Head Greenkeeper at Royal Porthcawl Golf Course, Ian Kingley, is impressed with the overall performance of the Vredo. "It's an excellent seeder and gives very accurate, full coverage with little waste that I can see." Says Ian "It is quick, doesn't disrupt the surface and play is resumed far sooner than any other method we have used in the past. I can't fault it and would recommend it to any club."

Figures quoted from some clubs show a big reduction in seed used to overseed 18 greens - from 24 20kg bags, spread with a conventional seeder, to just 15 bags with the Vredo Super Compact seeder.

Dave says: "I am very impressed with the performance of this exceptional machine. I can complete 18 holes in a day and, with an early 6am start, I can be finished and off the course by 2.30pm."

Andrew Mannion is Course Manager at Southerndown Golf Club "The real benefit of the Vredo is that it has improved the quality of the greens with the minimum of disruption. The Vredo is quick - it takes only a day and a half instead of 3 to re-seed all the greens. Play can be resumed immediately and our members have nothing but praise for the results."

There are three models of the Vredo Super Compact Series available. Each has a 3-point linkage mounted option or can be towed with its own hydraulic lift frame.
