Westminster’s Wall of Silence
Westminster's Wall of Silence
When the University of Westminster received complaints from local residents about the noise of hockey balls rebounding against the kickboards behind the goals during play on their synthetic pitches, Technical Surfaces were called in to offer the perfect solution - soundproofing the kickboards with artificial turf.
The specialist technicians covered the backboards using a polypropylene carpet with integral foam backing to both 'deaden the sound' and provide extra protection to the kickboards.
"As with all good things, nobody in the local community has passed comment on this improvement!" observed Facility Manager, David Palmer. "We are very pleased with the effects and aesthetics of the soundproofing, and have had no further complaints from residents."
The University is hoping to eventually soundproof all the kickboards surrounding both pitches, creating a 'noise-free' environment in which to practice and stage competitive Hockey matches. Let's hope this 'wall of silence' doesn't drown out any noisy goal celebrations!
