Willing work horse is on the hoof throughout the year

Redwings 1.jpgA combination of quiet, unfussed operation, excellent manoeuvrability and good load-carrying capacity has made Massey Ferguson's MF 20 MD diesel utility vehicle the number one work horse at three high-profile rescue centres operated by equine charity, Redwings.

In action every day of the year, the 4 x 4 vehicles are being used primarily to ferry bales of hay and straw, individual feed buckets and a variety of maintenance materials and hand tools around the three centres which are located in Norfolk,Essex and Warwickshire.

An important additional twice-daily task is the removal of droppings from grass- and woodchip-surfaced paddocks where the animals spend most of their time.

Celebrating its silver jubilee this year, Redwings Horse Sanctuary has grown to become the largest equine charity in the UK, working to save and care for horses, ponies, donkeys and mules whose future would otherwise be bleak due to maltreatment, neglect or poor circumstances.

The charity's administrative headquarters at Hapton, near Norwich, houses a specialist veterinary team and hospital together with dedicated staff responsible for equine welfare, rehabilitation and re-homing.

Redwings 3.jpgWhen the time came to replace the existing work vehicles at three of its rescue centres, Redwings selected the MF 20 MD as being the best all-round option for its purposes.

Supplied by Norfolk-based Massey Ferguson dealer, Randell NFM Ltd, all three were put to work the moment they arrived at each centre.

"We wanted a quiet, unobtrusive vehicle able to negotiate tight spaces and move among the animals and our many visitors without causing stress, worry or disturbance," explained Boo Rowe, deputy farm manager at the Redwings centre at Oxhill, Warwickshire. "A tipping load-box, four-wheel drive and easy driver and passenger access were also essential. Massey Ferguson has come up trumps with the MF 20 MD. It's like having another pair of hands at the centre."
