BTME Award Previews
As we approach The BIGGA Awards 2024. Pitchcare caught up with some of the finalists ahead of the ceremony to discuss what they have been doing and what the award would mean to them.
Jonny Caldwell- Paisley Golf Club, Course Manager
James Kimmings spoke to Jonny on Friday he said this about the Championship Greenkeeping Performance of the Year Award. He was nominated for hosting the Scottish Golf Men’s Area Team Championship Finals in September 2023.
He said: "A lot of work went in, we always try to keep the standards but it seemed that the stars aligned for us during the finals. We were nominated by Toni Ffinch, the Senior Events Manager at Scottish Golf."
Toni quoted the course as: "Fantastic condition and one of the best-presented courses we have seen all year"
Jonny continued: "It was unexpected, but I think this has been in the making for the last ten years. Before I got appointed, the club had already been working hard to push for success. I think that is where I put the credit- the team. I have won an individual award in the past but this would mean much more, I am a team player and this team deserves it"
Jonny credits his predecessor: "Johnny Clarin, the course manager before me took the golf course a long way, he put a lot of foundational work in and left me a great course to work with."
"I am up against two other great clubs. For me it is nice to be recognised for the hard work, we will be happy to get down to Harrogate and enjoy a few days away if we win then that's an added bonus."
