Overtake selective herbicide 5L

Active substances: 141 g/l fluroxypyr and 2.4 g/l florasulam

Overtake is a selective herbicide which can be used to control many broadleaved weeds including daisies, dandelion and white clover in managed amenity turf and amenity grassland situations such as golf courses and playing fields and sports pitches. Overtake contains two active substances with different modes of action to ensure optimum efficacy and a reduction in the risk of herbicidal resistance developing.

Overtake is primarily absorbed into the plant through the foliage and works best when target plants are small and actively growing.

Target species

Broadleaved annual and perennial weeds including:

  • Daisy
  • Dandelion
  • White clover

Application recommendations

Where to use

  • Amenity grassland: Areas of semi-natural or planted grassland subject to minimal or non-intensive management including airfields and predominantly grassed railway embankments and roadside verges.
  • Managed amenity turf: Areas of frequently mown, (i.e. mown at least once a week) intensively managed turf, including fields being used for turf production. May include areas for public use including all types of sports turf, golf greens, tees and fairways.

When to use

Apply to actively growing grass between March-October. Allow newly sown turf to become established before applying.

Application window
Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec

How to use

  • Apply at a rate of 2l/ha in 200-400l/ha water to amenity grassland or managed amenity turf
  • Apply using vehicle mounted or handheld spray equipment and a medium spray quality nozzle
  • After use thoroughly clean both the inside and outside of all spraying equipment using a spray tank cleaner
Maximum Treatments Application Rate Water Volume Application Method Spray Quality
1 per annum 2L/ha 200-400L/ha Vehicle mounted boom sprayer
Knapsack or hand-held sprayer
Medium

Additional information

  • Do not allow spray from horizontal boom sprayers to fall within 5m of the top the bank of a water body
  • Do not allow spray from hand-held sprayers to fall within 1m of the top the bank of a water body
  • Clippings from treated grass can be used for mulch after the third cut
  • Allow four weeks between application and re-seeding turf
  • Do not apply if turfgrass is wet, under stress, if termperatures are low or in periods of prolonged cod or dry weather
  • Avoid contact with non-target plants
  • Avoid mowing for three days before and after application to ensure optimum uptake of the active substances

Active substances

Fluroxypyr

Bio-Chemical Mode of Action: Fluoxypyr belongs to the synthetic auxins group of herbicides. Synthetic auxins work by inducing rapid abnormal cell growth and development in the stems, petioles and leaves of susceptible plants causing cell bursts and ultimately cell and plant death.

Mobility Fluoxypyr is a systemic penetrant which means that the active substance can be translocated downwards through the plant within the phloem (sugar conducting tissues) and upwards through the plant within the xylem (water conducting tissues).

Application timing Systemic auxins are best applied when the weeds are actively growing. They are generally more effective when target plants are younger and in their vegetative phases.

Resistance The incidences of resistance to synthetic auxins remains relatively low which is assumed to be because the herbicide has multiple sites of action.

However, resistance to synthetic auxins has been observed globally with 36 species being confirmed as resistant as of 2017. Best management practices, such as alternating with products with a different mode of action and using cultural weed control methods, will help to reduce the risk of further resistance.

Florasulam

Bio-Chemical Mode of Action: Florasulam belongs to the ALS (Acetolactate Synthase) Inhibitors group of herbicides. Acetolactate synthase is an important enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of branched-chain amino acids. ALS inhibitors interrupt this process causing the plant to initially become chlorotic before necrosis of plant tissues followed by whole plant death occurs.

Mobility Florasulam is a systemic penetrant which means that the active substance can be translocated downwards through the plant within the phloem (sugar conducting tissues) and upwards through the plant within the xylem (water conducting tissues).

Application timing ALS inhibitors are best applied when the weeds are actively growing. They are generally more effective when target plants are younger and in their vegetative phases.

Resistance Resistance to ALS inhibitors is a relatively frequent occurrence due to their high activity on sensitive biotypes and soil residual activity. Best management practices, such as alternating with products with a different mode of action and using cultural weed control methods, will help to reduce the risk of further resistance.
