BIGGA London Section Annual Education Seminar 2019
On February the 12th the BIGGA London Section in conjunction with Oaklands College held its annual Greenkeeping seminar.
The seminar took place at Oaklands College and numbers were extremely high with 167 attending. The speakers were: Phil Helmn (MGK) Goodwood GC - Phil who oversees two 18-hole golf courses, cricket pitches, motor circuit areas, grass airfields and the extensive grounds and gardens around the historic Goodwood House spoke on his experiences in greenkeeping, his role at Goodwood GC and how to drive teams to deliver high standards.
James Edwards - Golf Course Architect and member of the EIGCA provided some insights into the key features to look for when considering any changes to golf course layout, illustrated with some wonderful examples of how such projects can be funded.
Keith Kent - Head Groundsman at Twickenham Stadium - with a career in grounds that started at Leicester City and includes Manchester United FC, Keith now manages England's Premier Rugby stadium and home of the RFU. Keith gave an insight into his career and his in work preparing world class Rugby pitches, NLF games and large scale music events like hosting a Rolling Stones concert.
Andrew Green - President A.H. Green Design - Andrew who had flown in from the USA spoke on the connection of historical design with the modern game as it relates to play in the States. His talk was illustrated by looking at renovation projects at places like Merion, Shinnecock Hills, Pine Valley, and Congressional.
The day was judged a great success by those who attended and the London section have now got the task of equalling the event next year.
