Find me a job! – Thomas Armstrong
Position sought - Assistant Greenkeeper
Location - Cumbernauld and surrounding area (up to 20 miles)
Scotland, the Home of Golf, is also home to the next person to feature in Pitchcare's 'Find me a job!' campaign.
Thomas Armstrong, who lives in the North Lanarkshire town of Cumbernauld, is due to complete his NQ in Greenkeeping at Langside College in mid-June.
With an abundance of golf courses in the local area, you'd think that an assistant greenkeeper's job wouldn't be hard to come by for someone as motivated as Thomas, and as his course draws to a close, he's hopeful that employers will recognise the benefits of employing someone who already has years of work experience and learning behind them.
Thomas is 37 and has spent his working life to date in practical jobs, building and installing kitchens and bedrooms, laying flooring, manufacturing marble fireplaces and as a Warehouse Operative, picking and packing stock, scheduling and unloading deliveries and updating computer systems.
“I am physically fit, reliable, honest, mature and I'm very keen to break into this industry, hence the reason I went back into further education to study greenkeeping,” he explains. I'm hard working, very eager to learn and can be trusted to perform any duties asked of me to a high standard. I'm a team player but can also be relied upon to work safely and efficiently on my own.”
“I've enjoyed my course and would be willing to participate in any additional education a prospective employer thought would be of benefit to me or them.”
“As part of the NQ Greenkeeping course, I have operated pedestrian rotary and cylinder mowers, ride-on mowers and scarifying machines. I've been involved in the renovation of bunkers, the aeration of greens, hollow tining and coring, top dressing, drainage maintenance, scarifying, re-seeding and repairing damaged surfaces.”
Thomas has also had some practical experience at Mearns Castle Golf Academy during the course under the supervision of the Head Greenkeeper.
He can supply references to any potential employer upon request.
If you can help Thomas, please email Ellie Tait at ellie@pitchcare.com and we'll put you in touch! Thank you.
