Four Irish Golf Courses select Jacobsen Turf Equipment
By Peter Driver
Four out of five prestigious courses featured in an article on new golf development in The Irish Times are taking equipment packages supplied by Ransomes Jacobsen's distributor, Broderick Grass Machinery.
The good weather has brought forward the cutting requirement for golf courses through the country and this has accelerated the need for cutting equipment at the new courses in Bray, Co. Wicklow and The Heritage in Portlaoise. Large fleets of Jacobsen tees, greens, fairway and rough mowers together with Cushman utility trucks, have been delivered in order to cope with the cutting demand.
"After sales service is the key factor in equipment selection" said Anthony Fitzpatrick, Course Superintendent of The Heritage.
The two contracts have a combined value in excess of €1.5 million and it is believed that these are the largest contracts ever placed for course maintenance machinery in Ireland. Both courses opted for Jacobsen cutting equipment, Cushman utility vehicles and other equipment distributed by Broderick's from their branches in Belfast, Dun Laoghaire and Tipperary.
Other courses recently equipped by Broderick's include the West course at the K-Club, home of the Ryder Cup in 2006, and the new Montgomerie designed course at Carton House in Kildare.
The Heritage Golf & Country Club is a €100 million project that includes a luxury hotel, Ballesteros designed 7,345 yard, 18-hole course, three storey 38,000 square feet clubhouse, leisure centre and golfing academy. Membership is €25,000.
Bray Golf Club is moving from its existing 9-hole metropolitan course to a new 180-acre site in May, as the result of a land swap deal with a property developer. The new course is 3½ miles away and will feature a new 18,500 square feet clubhouse. Membership is €15,000.
The Montgomerie course at Carton House is described as an 'inland links' and measures 7,245 yards with a par of 72. Due to open in July or August, it complements the existing Mark O'Meara parkland course. Membership is €37,500.
