Jobs lost as golf club closes

Bosses at Standish Court Golf Club called staff together on Sunday to tell them the course, which is based on Rectory Lane, was closing with immediate effect and was going into voluntary liquidation.

The following day a large crane was seen by neighbours to move a shipping container used for green keeping equipment from the club's car park and place it over the entrance, blocking it from traffic.

Members were alerted by phone and email the same day of the closure and will now be anxious over what percentage of fees they will eventually be able to recover - although some have subsequently been seen playing on the closed greens after entering through an unofficial entrance near to The Owls.
