Maxwell Launch of SeaAction Seaweed

Seaweeds have been used by turf managers for decades, although until recently how they work has not been clearly understood. Scientific knowledge of the processes within plants is now developing in parallel with our understanding of genetics and a process known as 'Priming'.

Plants treated with SeaAction Seaweed are better able to tolerate environmental stresses, e.g. lessening the impact of heat and low soil moisture, cold, frost, high UV light intensity, fungal disease, and nematodes. Thus the primary benefit obtained from applying SeaAction to plants is to prime the plant to tolerate biotic and abiotic stresses. Improvements in productivity, disease control and plant quality can result from the use of SeaAction which:

1. Elevates levels of antioxidants and plant hormones.
2. Modifies plant gene expression.
3. Activates systemic resistance in plants.

How SeaAction Seaweed works

SeaAction acts by inducing a plant physiological state known as "priming", with "primed" plants able to display faster and stronger activation of cellular stress defence responses. This means that crops can withstand biotic and abiotic stresses which otherwise would cause significant plant damage.

SeaAction Seaweed is a cold-pressed extract from the Ascophyllum nodosum seaweed. The extraction excludes the use of high temperatures, chemicals or solvents ensuring that the beneficial properties are fully captured and complying with the standards of Organic Farmers and Growers. It is sustainably harvested from the clear, unpolluted shores of the Irish west coast.

SeaAction contains components such as macro- and microelement nutrients, amino acids, vitamins, cytokinins, auxins and abscisic acid (ABA)-like growth substances affect cellular metabolism in treated plants leading to enhanced growth and plant health. SeaAction is bioactive at low concentrations (dilutes as 1:500 or more). Many of the various chemical components of SeaAction exhibit synergistic activity. SeaAction contains vitamins C, B1, B2, B3, B12, E, H, K3 and Beta Carotene and it is a source of complex polysaccharides such as mannitol, alginic acid, methylpenosans, laminaran, fucoidan, and alginate which have been demonstrated to evince natural defense responses in plants.

The low nitrogen content means that it can be incorporated readily into any existing fertiliser programme to help improve the health and quality of all sports surfaces.
