'Mindless' driver churns up pitch at Caernarfon Rugby Club

Press Releasein Rugby

A "mindless" driver put a rugby game in jeopardy after a car was seen speeding over a playing field, the day before a crunch match.

Players and supporters of Caernarfon Rugby Club were horrified to discover the playing field for their second team at the Morfa training ground had been wrecked by a car which was spotted driving up and down the turf late on Saturday night.

A spokesman for North Wales Police confirmed they are aware of the incident and are investigating.

A spokesman for the club said: "Clwb Rygbi Caernarfon are both angry and saddened at the damage done to one of our pitches on Saturday night.

"Over the summer, the club has spent nearly £5,000 in laying new drainage, levelling and reseeding the pitch so that our players, young and old can have a pitch which reflects the high standards to which Caernarfon aspire.

"That some mindless idiots not only spoiled this hard work, and the fundraising that went to fund it, but threatened our junior section games on Sunday, is a sad reflection on society today."
