ELMOW on test 2.jpgA battery-electric pedestrian fine-turf mower will be launched by Allett on Stand A18 at this year's IOG SALTEX show.

Designed, built and tested at Allett's development and engineering centre in Hixon, Staffordshire, the Allett ELMOW is to be offered in 510mm (20in) and 610mm (24in) cutting widths to suit the mowing requirements of bowls and golf clubs, turf maintenance contractors and those looking after quality ornamental lawns.

Prototype trials have shown that the machine can achieve up to four hours' mowing from a fully-charged battery pack, depending on grass length, cutting height and working gradients. Battery packs can be quickly and easily interchanged, enabling ELMOW to work for a full day with minimal downtime and inconvenience.

Featuring advanced electric motor and controller technology, the Allett ELMOW delivers near silent operation, very low hand-arm vibration and zero emissions at the place of work. The result is a mower ideal for noise-sensitive residential, commercial and resort locations and for users looking to reduce their environmental impact and the exposure of operators, bystanders and others to potentially harmful exhaust gases, noise and vibration.

ELMOW battery change.jpgAlthough utilising some of the very latest battery-electric technology in its drive lines, ELMOW retains all of the mowing pedigree accumulated by Allett across a wealth of grass surfaces over the past 45 years. A 120mm (4.7in) diameter, 10-bladed cutting cylinder is preceded by a powered turf groomer designed to lift lateral grass growth, helping produce a consistently true and level finish. If not required, the groomer can be raised out of work.

Other user-friendly features include no-tool cutting height adjustment from 2.4mm to 19mm, a combined cylinder reverser/speed reduction button for backlapping and an automatic safety brake which engages when the machine is stationary and disengages automatically when forward or reverse drive is selected.

With full production of ELMOW scheduled in time for the 2011 season, Allett will be using IOG SALTEX to record customer enquiries and arrange demonstrations of the new mower, starting in September. Price of ELMOW, its battery packs and other accessories will be announced at the show.
