National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) 2024 is the 17th annual celebration of apprenticeships.

This week has brought together everyone passionate about apprenticeships to celebrate the value, benefit and opportunity that they bring. Social media has been a flurry with good news stories and a celebration of the many apprentices in our industry and further afield.

We spoke to Lee Price, Employer Services Manager at Myerscough College, to get his thoughts on the importance of the week. "National Apprenticeship Week 2024 highlights the significance of apprenticeships in the Sportsturf Industry. Apprentices form a vital part of the industry's future by providing a talented and skilled workforce and are a great way to succession plan."

"The training equips apprentices with the skills, knowledge and practical expertise needed to progress within the industry."

"Myerscough College Sportsturf Apprenticeships are great for employers because they offer specialised training in sports turf management; providing apprentices with practical skills and knowledge needed to progress. Employers benefit from the apprentices' dedicated work ethic, industry-specific expertise, and the chance to mould them into valuable assets for their organisations."

"Many of our former apprentices have progressed into some of the top roles in the Sportsturf Industry. With the focus on skills and lifelong learning, apprenticeships also give employers a great opportunity to up skill the existing workforce in a convenient, cost effective way."

How important is national apprentice week for the turfcare industry?

Lee concluded: "National Apprenticeship Week is important as it gives the turfcare industry a chance to showcase the amazing career opportunities that are on offer. With an often aging workforce, it's important that we do everything we can to inspire the next generation!
