New National Turf Conference

An impressive line-up of speakers is set to address the inaugural TGA National Turf Conference, taking place at the ICI Conference Centre, East of England Showground, Peterborough, on Thursday 24 October 2002.

Arranged and presented by the Turfgrass Growers Association, the conference is aimed at individuals, companies and organisations involved in any aspect of growing, specifying, installing or maintaining seeded turf used for amenity, sports or landscaping purposes.

Seven eminent speakers drawn from across the turf industry, and beyond, will talk on a wide range of topics, providing conference attendees with a useful, informative and enjoyable day. The event will be further enhanced by an exhibition of products and services for turf professionals. Exhibits will be available for viewing prior to the official opening of the conference at 10.25am, as well as during the lunch break and at the end of the day following an open forum.

The planned conference programme is as follows:

9am onwards Arrivals, registration and coffee. Exhibition opens of products and services for turf professionals.

10.20am Welcome and introduction by David Waring, Chairman of the Turfgrass Growers Association.

10.30am Turfgrass pests and diseases - results from the STRI's 2001 survey
Speaker: Dr Ruth Mann, Sports Turf Research Institute

11am The ecology of Turfgrass establishment
Speaker: Martyn Jones, 1st Class Training

11.30am Developments in employment law affecting small to medium-sized businesses
Speaker: Brian Morron, Senior Partner, Gotelee & Goldsmith, Solicitors

12noon Assessing and quantifying Turfgrass quality
Speaker: Robert Laycock, independent turf consultant

12.30pm Lunch. Static exhibition open.

2pm The day-to-day management and effective maintenance of premier soccer pitches
Speaker: Alan Ferguson, Ipswich Town Football Club

2.30pm The breeding and production of high quality amenity grasses
Speaker: Mr Mogens Toft Jensen, DLF-Trifolium

3pm Healthy turf - the answer lies in the soil
Speaker: Dr Alan Gange, University of London

3.30pm Open Forum. An opportunity for the audience to ask questions of the
Speakers about their papers and related topics.

4.30pm Chairman's summing up

4.35pm Tea and final chance to visit exhibition.

5.30pm Conference closes.

Attendance at the conference is limited to a maximum of 200 delegates. As demand is expected to be strong for this high profile industry event, tickets are to be issued on a pre-registration basis. Fee for the day, including coffee, lunch, tea, and a set of papers as provided by speakers, is just £65 + VAT.
