Open support caught on video
While golf fans around the world were watching Phil Mickelson win The 2013 Open Championship, John Deere was winning fans of its own at Muirfield.
As the official golf course maintenance equipment suppliers to the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, along with local dealer Sherriff Groundcare, John Deere equipment and support were being put through their paces during the build-up to and throughout the championship.
A new video just posted on the John Deere website and on the company's Facebook page gives a flavour of the level of support and commitment needed at a major golf tournament such as The Open.
Muirfield course manager Colin Irvine said: "The overall support we got from John Deere and Sherriffs before and during the tournament was terrific, everyone did a great job to keep things running smoothly - it was the best tournament support we've ever had at Muirfield."
In total, 20 John Deere machines were supplied to complement the course's own fleet, including 7500 and 8000 E-Cut hybrid fairway mowers, an 8800 rough mower, a 2653B tees & surrounds mower, 180SL (with groomers) and 220SL walk-behind greens mowers, along with a 1026R sub-compact tractor with collection system, plus TE electric and HPX diesel 4x4 Gator utility vehicles with trailers.
"This was great example of the company and the dealer working together to support one of our high-profile customers when the eyes of the golfing world were watching the event unfold," said Howard Storey, Deere & Company's European golf product marketing manager.
This year, John Deere has also supported Merion Golf Club hosting the US Open, Sebonack Golf Club hosting the US Women's Open, and Oak Hill Country Club hosting the PGA Championship.
