JSM Cup20 enthusiastic football teams made up of greenkeepers from around Surrey, Kent & Sussex braved the rain to contest the JSM Challenge Cup at East Grinstead Sports Club on 28th May.

The weather couldn't dampen their commitment and enthusiasm through the pool stages and onto the exciting climax, where one semi-final and eventually the final itself were settled by penalty shoot outs. Sunningdale Golf Club emerged as winners on the day and gained a reputation as the penalty kings - winning both their semi-final and the final following penalties.

A total of 43 games of very competitive 5-a-side football, involving over 150 players and travelling fans were followed by a BBQ and presentation. Both semi-finals proved to be very close matches contested by Sunningdale, Hindhead, North Foreland and Addington Palace, with Addington and Sunningdale playing out a tense final itself.

The event was organised by JSM, the Toro, Hayter and Kioti machinery dealers covering the south-east. David Cole, Director, commented after the presentation 'Its be a great social event, which is what we were hoping for. Despite the damp weather everyone has had a great day and seems to have really enjoyed themselves. As well as the camaraderie we have seen some pretty committed action and very good standards of play. Sunningdale have had to fight hard for their title'.

Following the presentation everyone present also sent their best wishes to Daniel Lightfoot (Bearwood Lakes) for a speedy recovery from the injury he sustained in one of the early group matches.

'Its early days yet', added co-director Steve Vogels, ' but we have received such positive encouragement from all participants to repeat the event that we will take a serious look at it for next year, and maybe give Sunningdale a chance to defend the Cup'.
