SGP 004AThree young golfers from across the county received recognition at the recent Suffolk Golf Partnership development conference, held at the David Lloyd Leisure Centre in Ipswich. The awards, sponsored by Ransomes Jacobsen, recognise outstanding achievements by young golfers in the region.

Suffolk has three major academies located strategically across the county; one in the north at Bungay and Stonham Barns; another in the east at Bramford and Seckford; and finally in the west at Newton Green.

Joshua Driver, a member of Diss Golf Club, won the award for the northern area after he reduced his handicap from 27 to nine in just seven months. His enthusiasm for learning and his mature approach to the game made him the unanimous choice of the coaches.

Owen Vint, a junior at Rushmere Golf Club, reduced his handicap from 19 to 11 to take the eastern region award. The coaching team praised his total commitment to the academy structure and his diligence in completing homework tasks and use of the 'SmartPro' teaching software.

In the western area, Connor Talbot of Newton Green Golf Club, received the award for his excellent attitude to learning and his dedication to the academy teaching sessions over the past two years. In the past 12 month his handicap has reduced from 27 to 18.

Richard Comely, Director of Marketing and Product Management at Ransomes Jacobsen said, "We have supported the Suffolk Golf Partnership's activities for several years now. As a major employer in the region with a commercial interest in promoting the game of golf, we are delighted to sponsor these awards. The youngsters of today often receive bad press, but these young people are an outstanding example of everything that's positive about their generation. They are a credit to their families, their schools and the golf clubs they represent. They thoroughly deserve the recognition they have received."
