BLEC Ladies Race for Life
BLEC Ladies Race for Life
Press Release
On Sunday 14th May 2006, a team of ladies from BLEC Specialist Landscaping and Turf care Equipment took part in the 'Race for Life' event in support of Cancer Research UK.
The event was held Burghley House, Stamford, Lincolnshire (a location famous for the filming of Pride and Prejudice and more recently The Da Vinci Code), one of many venues around the country taking part throughout the year. Approximately 4,500 participants turned up on the day all willing and able to walk or run 5km to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
"Most of the members of our team have family or friends who have suffered from cancer at some time in their lives, but thankfully have survived." said Sue Mumby, Director of BLEC "We all wanted to take part and give a little of our time and effort to support this incredibly worthy cause. Between us we hope to raise over £1500."
The race began at 11.30am and the course was completed by all the entrants in just under an hour. "Some of us ran some of us walked" laughed Sue, "But all of us enjoyed every minute and we will be back again next year."
Race for Life began in 1994 and has become the largest women-only fundraising event in the UK. In that time over £100m has been raised for Cancer research UK. This years target is £46m and anyone wishing to take part or make a donation should look on the website www.raceforlife.org for further information.
