Bonnyton Golf Club return to Wiedenmann for another machine

Ross Monaghan, Course Manager at Bonnyton Golf Club near Glasgow, purchased the latest Wiedenmann deep aerator, the Terra Spike XF, from local dealer Nairn Brown last November. Since then he has aerated his fairways monthly so has given the new, fast machine a thorough testing.

Ross, who has a team of seven greenkeepers at the 18 hole members club, had previously purchased another machine from the Wiedenmann range, the Greens Terra Spike, three years ago.

"This has proved to be a thoroughly robust machine," he said. "We have used it extensively on our greens, tees and surrounds and it has performed very well. We wanted to improve the condition of our fairways, but the Greens Terra Spike was too light for the rocky nature of our soil here. We returned to Wiedenmann and had a demonstration of their new XF machine, which they claimed was three times faster than anything else on the market."

The result of the demonstration left none of the greenkeeping team at Bonnyton with any doubts that the XF was what it claimed to be.

"It really suits our needs perfectly," Ross Monaghan continued, "It's the same robust construction as the other machines in the Terra Spike range and the single point depth and heave adjustment, which we have on this machine, is simple and easy to operate. Most impressive is the fact that it is quick and this obviously allows us to carry out our aeration programme with very minimal inconvenience to the members."

Bonnyton's elevated position, with its heather covered moorland and tree lined fairways provides superb views over the City of Glasgow and is claimed to be one of the Scotland's Central region's best kept secrets.
