The council has won almost £3000 worth of lawn maintenance equipment and a plaque commemorating their historic win. The presentation ceremony was conducted at the IOG SALTEX exhibition on Tuesday 2nd September, and Chairman of Sidmouth Town Council, Councillor Anthony Reed, collected the prize.

Bryan Peachey, general manager of competition sponsors Briggs & Stratton UK, said: "This is the first year we have run Britain's Best Parks competition and the response has been very encouraging. We are delighted to announce the winners as Sidmouth Town Council and award them with their prize.

At Briggs & Stratton, we feel it is important to maintain our public green spaces to a high standard to encourage more people to enjoy them."

Cllr Anthony Reed said: "Fred the Peacock has always been a star in Sidmouth and we are proud that he has now become a superstar thanks to readers of the Sun. This novel competition sponsored by Briggs and Stratton does well to encourage the management of municipal parks and gardens throughout the country".
