Marquis of Lansdowne selects Ransomes Jacobsen

Bowood Golf and Country Club selected Ransomes Jacobsen turf equipment to maintain the 18 hole championship course situated in the heart of the 2,000 acre estate at Bowood House in Wiltshire.

Golf course manager Ross Williams explaining the reasoning behind the purchase said, "We evaluated equipment from all the major manufacturers before selecting the Ransomes Jacobsen package for its combination of equipment, service from local dealer TH White and competitive pricing. In my opinion the Jacobsen LF-3800 fairway machines are far superior to anything else and the 960 batwing rotary is the best there is for maintaining the rough, as it leaves far less wheel marks. Presentation is extremely important here at Bowood, the Marquis insists on it, and the Jacobsen machines are excellent in this respect.

"We are meticulous in our preparation of the course, cutting and boxing off the fairways, every working day. Tees, collars and approaches are cut daily and we use greens mowers fitted with tees units on the tees. The semi-rough is cut three times a week using the AR250 and the rough is cut most afternoons, weather and competitions permitting. All 84 bunkers are raked every day and in dry spells we can use our tee to green irrigation system.

"We purchased two G-Plex III ride-on greens mowers as part of the £250,000 contract; the reason being that we need to prepare the 1st and the 10th simultaneously to accommodate the many competitions that require a shotgun start and it also means that we have back up should we have a problem.

"The Marquis is very proud of his course and was personally involved in the negotiation of the contract to supply the equipment. The team from Ransomes Jacobsen and TH White provided a very professional response to the initial brief and the service since delivery has been first class."

The complete inventory of new equipment is as follows:

3 x Jacobsen LF-3800 light fairway mowers
4 x Jacobsen G-Plex III greens mowers, 2 fitted with tees cylinders
2 x Jacobsen Frontline 960 rough mowers
1x Jacobsen AR250 with mulching decks
1 x Jacobsen Bunker Rake
1 x Cushman Turf-Truckst
