Turf takes the stage- Issue 122 - Editor's Foreword

Kerry Haywoodin Foreword

The turfcare calendar is about to hit full stride as the industry gears up for its biggest events.

From the buzz of GroundsFest, blending live demos with festival flair, to the innovations at SALTEX, and the knowledge-packed networking hub of BTME, show season brings the turf world together. And, of course, there’s always time for a drink or two!

I always look forward to show season and I am especially excited to reconnect with familiar faces and meet new ones at the first event of the year, GroundsFest. James and I will be on stand RB4, where we’d love to hear about your successes and chat about potential article ideas; it’s a great chance for your team and club to showcase all your hard work in the magazine.

Be sure to sign up for your free digital edition, join our loyalty scheme, and get hands-on with products from the Pitchcare shop. Also, don’t miss the Pitchcare seminar theatre across the two days, with topics including: Managing moisture effectively, Site ecology and biodiversity, Robotics in turfcare and Recruitment.

The wait is nearly over! In the meantime, you can explore all the show previews on our news & media pages. Register for the event and check out our Q&A with the GroundsFest team to get fully prepared: pitchcare.com/pages/news.

Whilst we look forward to these events, it’s impossible to ignore some of the discussions making waves in the turfcare world. The recent derogatory comments toward Surrey Head Groundsman Lee Fortis, when India coach Gautam Gambhir said he was “just a groundsman,” highlight the ongoing struggle for recognition. We spoke to Martin Knight from Gloucester Rugby Club about the challenges turfcare professionals face when it comes to appreciation and respect (p34).

BIGGA’s annual Thank a Greenkeeper Day on 9th September is another opportunity to celebrate the fantastic work carried out by greenkeepers and ensure the industry receives the recognition it deserves #ThankAGreenkeeper

The stage is set, the spotlight’s on - and turfcare is ready to shine!
