New Barenbrug- Bred Cultivar Improves Popular turf Production

Specialist grass seed breeder Barenbrug has reformulated its RTF Turf mixture to further enhance the performance of this turf growers' favourite.

The mixtures now includes 20 percent Barcesar, a brand new tufted tall fescue that provides all the benefits of a tall fescue but with outstanding shoot density and very fine leaf for the species. In fact, Barcesar scored an impressive 7.6 and 7.5 respectively for these attributes in the 2011 Turfgrass Seed guide, making it the number one top-rated cultivar on Table L8.

This innovative new cultivar also boasts excellent wear tolerance once established, while a mid-green colour ensures Barcesar blends well with other species, quite unlike the traditional dark green cultivars.

Commenting on the reformulation, research and development manager Jayne Leyland says: "Barcesar brings some fantastic added benefits in terms of both performance and appearance to what was already a great product. It's the perfect complement to our deep-rooting Rhizomatous Tall Fescue, which gives RTF Turf its outstanding tensile strength and recovery, and superior drought and water-logging tolerance."

Barenbrug has also enhanced its lawns and landscaping mixture, BAR 10 RTF, with the inclusion of 20 percent Barcesar.

Though the mixture is ideally suited to landscaping applications, Barenbrug is seeing an increase in the number of sporting venues using BAR 10 RTF, thanks to its tensile strength and rootzone stabilisation. It's proving particularly popular among rugby users, with renowned rugby-playing school Newcastle Royal Grammar and Warrington Sports Club two of the first customers to benefit from the new formulation, building on their previous overseeding success using BAR 10 RTF.
